SALVATORE POLLASTRINI located in Anzio just outside of Rome, has produced tinned sardines since 1889. Today they are fished in the Mediterranean Sea, wild Caught – Pollastrini sardines are fished off the coast of Rome in the Tyrrhenian Sea from April until November. Sardines are a perfect fish as they are low in fat but contain iodine, zinc, iron and phosphorus.
The sardines are packed in olive oil, with spicy chillies and a small amount of salt. They are great as an antipasto or tapas, and can be tossed through pasta, salads and vegetables or just served with crisp rustic bread.
