The Primo Estate story is an Australian journey with an Italian twist.

Joe Grilli made the first tiny batch of JOSEPH olive oil as a publicity stunt to draw attention to the Italian heritage of his wines, he bottled it in wine bottles because there was nothing else available. This seasonal product is a multiple gold medal winning Australian gourmet icon. JOSEPH First Run is still the first new oil on the market when it is released in every year. Joe still works with some of same olive groves he visited back in 1989 and in the last 27 years he has seen the industry flourish with modern groves and classic and new varieties from mature trees now at his disposal. The olives he has to work with get better and better each year.

GROWING CONDITIONS

The weather remained cool until the end of March, when days warmed quickly.

Low yields and a dry start to the year accelerated ripening. Harvest was completed in perfect autumn weather by late June.

Yields were lower than previous years, but the fruit arrived at the press in stunning condition.

HARVEST

The JOSEPH First Run uses fruit picked at the beginning of the olive harvest. The fruit was pressed, blended and bottled in early July. We pick the finest parcels from different groves and varieties to produce the best extra virgin olive oil of the season.
