Wednesday 1st of November, 5:30pm – 7:30pm, @$150pp
Join us for a Middle Eastern dinner party with Michael Rantissi from Kepos Street Kitchen at our SIMON JOHNSON Cooking School, in Alexandria. Michael loves to entertain at home so this class will be a showcase of some of his recipes – perfect for a Sydney summer or for entertaining over the holiday season.
Michael will demonstrate some of his favourite dishes during this two-hours class and everyone will have the chance to have a taste. The food that he will show draws on the best of his childhood meals mixed with his classical training. Dishes which have a strong Mediterranean influence with a Middle Eastern twist and will be inspired by seasonal produce.
ABOUT:
Born in Tel Aviv Israel, Michael fondly recalls his earliest culinary education alongside his mother in the family kitchen. His first job as a chef was in Israel working as a Pastry Chef. With a desire to grow in the business, Michael went to attain his education at the Culinary Arts Academy in Paris. Michael later cut his teeth under several renowned Chefs in the industry including the Head Chef of the Academy where he was formally educated and the Head Chef of the 2 Michelin-star restaurant Sugar Club in London.
Michael arrived in Sydney in 2005 and worked in numerous restaurants within the 100 Group, as well as The Bathers’ Pavilion, Pink Salt in Double Bay and his successful catering business, de Pomegranate Catering. Michael now owns and runs Kepos Catering and Kepos Street Kitchen in Redfern, a restaurant that has won numerous accolades including “Best Café Food” in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Best Café Guide.
Together with his partner Kristy Frawley, Michael has published ‘Falafel for Breakfast’ and ‘Hummus & Co’, two cookbooks long listed for the Australian Book Industry Awards in the category of illustrated book of the year. In addition to that, the Kepos team has now a weekly stand at the Carriageworks Farmers Markets in Eveleigh, a purpose-built catering kitchen in Rosebery, and has partnered with pastry chef Andy Bowdy and Maddison Howes to open Salma’s Canteen in Rosebery in July 2023.
